Spring
Everything that is associated with trilliums comes in threes. The large,
solitary , waxy white three-petaled flower nods on an erect stem above a whorl
of three broad leaves. Also known as white-lily and snow trillium, it was often
used by Indians for medical purposes and was eaten by early settlers as cooked
greens.
The trillium scene and unusual trillium with the green stripe were taken May 4,
2001 along a roadside very near the Indiana and Michigan state line just west of
South Bend. The unique thing about this area is there are few other plants to
distract from the overall view of the trilliums.
